Filofax Heaven

Earlier this month, I posted a video on youtube, but I forgot to post it here!

Oh, the Malden!

Happy September!!!!!!

Oh, thank goodness August is over! I really had days wherein I wasn’t sure I was going to make it through the month, and the last few days seemed to drag, as if teasing me with the relief that is to come but was still just out of reach.

I know many are sad about the thought of summer coming to an end, but here in the SW, sometimes it’s a real blessing to have that relentless heat finally morph into crisp evenings and mornings. And the wind: it’s about time for the wind to show up again, and while I could do without the dust flying, it’s lovely to have what feels like a clean sweep of stagnant energies go on for a few weeks.

I’ve also mentioned before that September always feels like a new year to me; a definite hold-over from school years when we started the Tuesday after Labor Day.

I’m still waiting for my new Plum Paper planner to be shipped; they said 6-8 weeks, but I really was hoping to get it today since I had requested it to go from September to August. Ah well, it will get here when it gets here, and I’ll keep using my Filofax til then.

This is a picture that was either submitted to a National Geographic contest a few years ago, or it is by a N.G. photographer (I don’t remember the name; bad hobbit). Every time I look at it, it cracks me up, and today, it’s exactly how I feel!

I’m motivated to do find a way to do more #oasisoflight sessions (that’s goal #1), to write more on MeWe, to get back to posting on Instagram more than I have been (and to weed my timeline: SO many tarot spreads/cards of the day), to sign up for Joanna Powell Colbert’s “30 Days of Harvest” because it looks delicious on many levels…and to focus on nurturing ME for a change (getting sick twice this summer was a new record for me).

So Happy September (New Year), one and all!!!

It’s Time for a Filofax Break

I’ve been using a Filofax ever since I stumbled across the wide world of internet Filofax lovers, and it’s been a love – hate relationship from the get-go.

First, I ordered what I thought was a personal size Metropol, only to discover that the seller was wrong and it was actually a pocket size. About the size of my hand and way too hard to write in.

I soon gained 3 more (one has been passes on to someone else), and have been using a personal Fusion pretty consistently since I won it in a giveaway over a year ago.

I carry it around, yet rarely use it for more than recording what happened, rather than doing any planning. Below is the Metropol, the Fusion, and my gorgeous A5 Chameleon.

I’ve been hearing about Erin Condren planners for a while (along with a dozen or so others, too), and pulled up the site over the weekend to see what’s up. There was a lot about them that I liked, but they are fairly expensive at a base price of $50.00, and almost every review has mentioned how heavy they are. Very heavy, from what I gather.

I found a comparison blog post between those and Plum Paper Designs. Very similar in style, fewer extras than Condron – which is OK with me: my washi-tape and bells and whistles Filofax extras phase ended rather quickly. The Plum Paper planners are lighter, you can start your year where you want to (mine is Sept, my holdover from school ‘beginning of the year’ feeling), and they start at a mere $31.00.

The biggest thing that attracted me to them was having everything in one place for the entire year, making research at a later date easier. With the Filofax, each page stands alone, and so I have alligator-clipped piles of months clipped together, and going through them gets to be more of a pain than finding what I need is worth. Major fail.

So I’m putting the Filofax away for a year (once I get the Plum Paper) and we’ll see how it goes!

Question: I redid the blog so that the sidebar is gone, making it easier for mobile apps. Had it helped clean things up for you? Or did you prefer the sidebar? Thanks!

To Filofax or Not to Filofax

©Pip Miller

I have 3 Filofaxes; one pocket-size, one personal, and one A5 Chameleon (love!). The personal, a Fusion (as pictured on the left) is carried with me at all times, and I’ve got to admit: a lot of times that’s all I do with it. Come to find out, I’m more of a recorder than a planner, so it ends up that I scribble things at the end of the day (or 3 or 4 days later), and pretty much birthdays/anniversaries and my guy’s doctors appointments are the only things that are written ahead of time.

Plus, it’s heavy. Not ‘Oh my gosh, what the hell do you have in there?!!” heavy, but noticeably so when it’s not in there. It’s packed full of things I carry with me and pages to use…none of which ever happens. It’s like buying a bigger purse: you shove in a ton of ‘just-in-case’ stuff, and discover that 99% of it never gets used and you’ve got a persistent backache to show for it.

So last night I pulled out Write It Down, Make It Happen, because I wanted a hardcover to read while eating dinner (you can lay a hardcover down and turn the pages), and as I’m reading along, I found a suggestion that I’m going to try. She notes that she gave a workshop in Greece and supplied her students with mini notebooks (those ones that look like composition notebooks, but are pocket-sized) and called them “Tidbit” books. They were to “take the book wherever they went and jot down concepts as they came to their mind, perhaps images they might want to write up more thoroughly later, or plans to put in motion once they returned to their own countries.”

I had just been wondering what to write in my Filofax (aka Miss Moneypenny) for the day, and reading this was like a bolt from the heavens. I remembered that I had 2 or 3 of those exact notebooks (stationery collector, what can I say), and I dug them out. Lo and behold, on one I’d written Tidbits and dated it; May 13, 2013. And I’d written in it for exactly two days. What I noticed, though, was that I’d used it more like a Gratitude Journal than a brain dump, and I’m pretty sure that’s why it didn’t last long. I also think that’s about the time I got into Filofaxes, go figure. 😉

mini notebooksI placed the book next to the bed when we headed off to snoozeville, and as usual, my brain was still running and running with ideas, so I grabbed the tiny book, headed off to the bathroom so I wouldn’t disturb Himself, and scribbled away all that was on my mind, including blog ideas (like this one). Then I was able to zonk out peacefully til morning.

I’ll be heading off to work in about an hour, and Miss Moneypenny will stay home (which means, of course, that there will be something in it that I’ll need today)., but the tidbit book is tucked in my back pocket – along with a pen that I hope doesn’t break. I’m going to play with this for a while (and once this notebook is filled up, I’ve another in the wings). And hey…I had NO idea they came narrow-ruled, too! Woohoo!

Another thought I had was to take my pocket Metropol Filofax, punch holes in a lot of index cards, fill it with those and those alone, and use it in the same manner. But it doesn’t actually fit in one’s pocket, and I think having to dig it out of my purse every time I want to jot down a random thought would be counterproductive. So I’ll see how these minis work out first.

Do you have a way to keep track of all those random thoughts and ideas that disappear moments after you think of them, even though they are sometimes very important or inspired? What do you do? Comment away!

PS: I’d forgotten what writing about Filofaxes can do for blog traffic, so my healing website is once again published. Check it out! I’d love to help you. 🙂

Filofax and the Bullet Journal

It’s been a while since I did a post about using my Filofax – in this case my Personal Fusion, and I came across a post on G+ today by Becky of Becky’s Paper Route which has me writing about it again.

©Pip Miller

I’ve been using a Filofax for a while, and currently have 3. The Personal is the one I carry with me to use on a daily basis, but as you can see, I’ve been seriously under-using it.

019

Some days DO have notes, but again, nothing extensive (excuse the #essentialtremor blurred picture). Granted, there are days that have more written down, but overall not many.

I even have a year planner, and not one thing noted on it. Planning is not my strong suit, especially for an entire year!

024

After reading Becky’s post and watching the Bullet Journal vid again, I restructured the bullet icons I was using (I tore up the key I had written, or I’d show you how ridiculous it was), and now it’s not only simpler, but more in tune with what I really need to note.

©Pip Miller

I’m also going to implement the monthly calendar and monthly task list, something I’ve not used one bit. I think more planning would probably help me, don’t you? 😉 I’ll do an update in a month or so and let you know how it’s going. I’m also using my beloved A5 Chameleon for my healing work, and I’m about to go set up a bullet system for that one, too.

Belly Fat Cure, Again

I’ve mentioned it before, even with my recent, unexpected weight loss, I still want to lose more and have been considering starting it again.  Yesterday I came by this post and decided that, yep, it’s a sign. 😉

Now get this.  I’ve been using a digital scale for a while, and it’s been telling me the same 3-4 lb range for eons.  Ok, a year or so.  The other day I put it away while I was mopping the kitchen floor (it’s the only flat place that isn’t carpeted) and brought it back out this morning to see what it said before I started the BFC today.

I had to step on it 3 times to make sure I was seeing what I was seeing.  It’s FIFTEEN pounds less!!!  I don’t know if something was stuck in the scale or what, but now I’ve lost weight I didn’t know I’d lost (though it had been mentioned to me by others)!!!!

I’m so happy!!!

And I’m going to write my little boxes in my Filofax and start keeping track again!  Who knows, I might wear shorts this summer! 😉

The Chronodex didn’t work for me as a planner, but the boxes for BFC do. 🙂

Such A Beautiful Friday!

We had one incredible storm last night!  It started as a lightning storm, then insane thunder and rain to beat the band!  I loved it!!  It kept me awake most of the night, though, and 5 a.m. came awfully early. 😉

Yesterday I made a batch of sun tea with this Detox tea I’d bought a couple weeks ago.

005

It has all kinds of good-for-you stuff in it:

006

And a nice description of what some of them are for.

009

It has kind of an odd taste, so I threw in a bag of peppermint tea and yum!!

I’m frustrated, exhausted, and fed-up with the job hunt, and pray every single day that I can support myself financially doing what I love. So far, it’s still a waiting game, but I haven’t given up hope. 🙂

I took my Fusion to the grocery store the other day, and I’m used to carrying a Metropol in pocket size for my wallet so it was a bit different, but still not a problem overall. The strap makes it easy to stuff receipts in it and not worry about stretching the material around the snap.  I’m interested to see how it goes when I have some cash and put in the back pocket, as you have to undo the strap to get into the pocket. Seems it would have made more sense to separate the two, but then again the money might fall out that way.  Doubtful, but still.

Nothing exciting to tell, it’s just such a glorious day and I felt like writing. 😉

Filofax Fusion

It arrived yesterday!!!  And the inner package is gorgeous!

©Pip Miller

It’s a dark navy blue, like brand new jeans. These pictures are much lighter than in real life.  Those are my business cards in that top slot. 🙂

©Pip Miller

©Pip Miller

I quickly made it my own!  The ‘to-do’ lists came along with it (as well as some other stickers), thank you Tracy!!!  I love that they have holes on either side, so you can flip them. 🙂

©Pip Miller

I’m pulling a tarot card a day and slipping it in the envelope as a reminder during the day.

©Pip Miller

On the back side I hung the see-through markers I’d been given earlier…I love these! And that’s the back of the tarot card. The stunning Legacy of the Divine deck. 🙂

©Pip Miller

I’d made a list of what I wanted in this binder and added some top tabs.

©Pip Miller

And since it’s going to act as my wallet, too, I took the strap I’d added to my pocket Metropol and clipped it to these rings. Every binder should have a strap!

©Pip Miller

I’m really looking forward to using this as my ‘nuts and bolts’ binder and am using my Chameleon more in line with Rori’s video. Woohoo!!!
